Ultrasound of the abdominal organs (preparation)

2-3 days before the ultrasound (diet):

Exclude: products that cause gases (raw vegetables and fruits, cabbage, legumes, black (rye) bread, whole milk, eggs, soda, sweets and alcohol).

You can eat: porridge made with water, lean meat or fish (steamed or boiled), hard cheese.

In case of flatulence (bloating): take simethicone or activated carbon.

On the day of the examination:

Food and water: do not eat or drink for at least 8 hours before your examination (preferably 12 hours). If your ultrasound is scheduled in the afternoon, you may have a light breakfast in the morning, provided that at least 6–8 hours have passed before the examination.

Bad habits: do not smoke, chew gum, or suck on sweets or lozenges before the examination. These activities may cause the gallbladder to contract, making it difficult to assess properly.

Medicines: If you take essential prescription medications, please inform your doctor. Whenever possible, schedule your appointment in the morning and take your medication after the examination. If necessary, you may take your medication with a small sip of water.
